Velebit Mountains and Hvar Island Adventure

  • Trekking in Velebit Nature Park & Paklenica National Park.
  • Licko Polje Natura 2000 site (Like Plains) to observe Tauros and Konik Horses.
  • Walking and sea kayaking on the charming Dalmatian Island of Hvar.
  • Walking tours of the historic cities of Zadar & Split.
Day 1 Zadar

Arrival in Split or Zadar and transfer to the group hotel in Zadar. Group orientation and evening meal in Zadar.

Day 2 Paklenica National Park

Following an early breakfast, we’ll drive just under 1 hour to Starigrad and the Paklenica National Park. The park is at the southern end of the Velebit range of mountains and has many deep gorges with steep slopes of beech and pines that rise to stunning limestone peaks, the highest of which is Vaganski at 1,757 meters. The park has high biodiversity and is home to a wide range of raptors as well as deer, bears and lynx. Our trek is about 14 kilometers long over steep terrain, so we’ll stop and enjoy a picnic lunch and enjoy the spectacular views. In the afternoon we’ll descend and drive to Gospić where we’ll enjoy 2 overnights at the Stara Lika Hotel.

Day 3 Velebit Nature Park

Today we’ll explore the central part of the spectacular Velebit Nature Park. The Nature Park stretches over an area of 2200 square kilometers and is the largest single protected area in Croatia. The park includes two national parks, North Velebit and Paklenica. The vast corridor in between the two national parks is managed by Rewilding Velebit in partnership with Rewilding Europe. It is this area that we’ll trek in today. It’s a wild area of rugged karst limestone with many ridges, canyons, peaks, caves and sinkholes. After a rewarding day of trekking, we return to Gospić for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 Lika Plains, Hvar Island

We’ll start early today and drive a short distance to the vast Lika Plains where we’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Velebit Range and hope to observe reintroduced Tauros and Konik/Bosnian horses. We’ll then drive south to Split where we’ll take the ferry to Hvar Island. We’ll stay for the next 3 nights in the charming port town of Hvar with free time to wander the ancient streets and soak up the island atmosphere. Dinner and overnight in Hvar.

Day 5 & 6 Hvar adventures

Hvar is often called ‘Queen of the Dalmatian Coast’ and for the next 2 days we’ll enjoy the gastronomy and explore this stunning island. The island has vast fields of lavender, olive groves, vineyards and a stunning coastline with crystal-clear waters. We’ll enjoy walks, visit ancient cultural sites and for those that desire to paddle around rocky coves and explore hidden beaches. Overnight Hvar town.

Day 7 Split

This morning we’ll leave Hvar and take the ferry back to Split. We’ll enjoy a trek and lunch in the mountains outside of Split before taking a walking tour of the fascinating city of Split. The ‘old town’ is surrounded by massive city walls, and we’ll enjoy its rich history dating back to the Palace of Diocletian which was designated a World Heritage site in 1979. In the evening we’ll enjoy a fun final dinner and drinks together at one of the city’s many bars and restaurants. Overnight Split.

Day 8 Departure

Today we’ll depart for onward flight connections.
